Georgie the Gentle Little Ghost

Sunday, October 28th, 2007

Georgie and the Robbers by Robert Bright was one of my favorite books growing up. I remember my mom ordered it from the Scholastic Book Club in first grade. This was not something we did very often, so it was a BIG deal. It came with a shiny new 45 RPM record to read along with. I played it until it went scratchy and skipped so much that even a three penny stack couldn’t hold that needle to the groove.

For those of you unfamiliar with Georgie. He lived in the Whittaker house. “Every night as everybody knows, Georgie has to creak the stairs and squeak the parlor door to remind Mr. and Mrs. Whittaker it’s time to go to bed and to sleep.” Robert Bright went on to write twelve Georgie books.

These are a few of my own gentle little ghosts that have been sitting on my desk for a long time. I figured it was time to finish some of the unfinished projects and make way for new ones.

Illustration Friday ~ Trick or Treat

Friday, October 26th, 2007

Well…. someone ate all the the Candy Corn, but I’ll bet you didn’t think it was these tricky little fellows!
Did you know that The National Confectioners Association estimates that about 20 million pounds of candy corn are sold each year. The few pieces that my spiders tricked away won’t even make a dent!
Oh, and October 30, is National Candy Corn Day! I hope you’re already making plans to celebrate that one!

Illustration Friday~Grow

I’m quite certain that the cat and the boy’s hair will grow back eventually!
I had to look in the archives for a picture to fit this weeks theme as I’m recuperating from the surgery I had on Friday.
Congratulations to the twenty-five artist that made it into the “Open”exhibit.
You go Mike Baker!! Yeah you!

Halloween Halftime

Monday, October 22nd, 2007

Just a quick note to say that I’m running quite slow this week. I went in for surgery on Friday and now I’m home recuperating. I had the best intentions. I took a bag full of notebooks, sketchbooks and art supplies with me to the hospital.
I guess I thought I’d be designing a few pictures while munching on Belgian chocolates and lounging in the colorful nightgown I had bought (you know, just to make the whole experience a little more pleasant) LOL
But no… I slept the whole time, not feeling like eating anything, while lounging in those lovely hospital gowns that never quite close up right in the back.
Now I’m home and I hope to be up and running by next week. If you see repeat pictures for some of the themes, I simply haven’t had time to draw anything new.
But I’ve been dreaming up some Halloween things. Maybe next week.

by Roberta Baird
This is also available at Greeting Card Universe in card form at my store front.

Down load a free card and envelope, yours free to use and enjoy for any occasion. Just click on the card above or visit my Shop link on the website and you will find it available.

We were very busy with our cupcake theme. Olivia and I made chocolate cupcakes with peanut butter frosting and carmel with carmel pecan frosting. I’m trying not to eat too many.
These are Darjeeling Cupcakes, made using a basic white cupcake recipe, but using Darjeeling tea as the liquid. I love tea infused cupcakes. Raspberry Royale adds a delicate flavor too! One of my favorites.
Butter Cream Frosting
4 c. powdered sugar
1/3 c. butter
1/4 t. salt
1t. vanilla
1/4 c. milk
butter flavoring (optional for more butter flavor)

Combine and beat until smooth and fluffy.

Owl Soft Toy

Saturday, October 13th, 2007

This a new creation from my owl pattern. It goes to a friend of mine in Ohio. I hope she’ll like it. Everyone here wants to take her home so I guess I’d better get her in a box and ship her off! I think I’ll make more of these for Christmas.
