Superstition
This is my illustration for Illustration Friday’s theme “Superstition.” We have a lot of these beautiful birds in our area.
The other day I watched two crows teasing a squirrel unmercifully. They didn’t hurt him, they were just pestering him. When they grew tired of the game, they flew away cackling and the squirrel ran home, no worse for wear, just a little ruffled.

Great image and story! That’s always been one of my favorite rhymes. I love crows– they’re so like humans, in many ways.

I laughed when I read about the crows and squirrel – I know I shouldn’t. My road has several large old trees home to squirrels and crows. The fights that go on between them – it sounds like the zoo sometimes!

I was admiring this again and your story reminds me of the term, “A murder of crows.” Did you know that they’ll all gang up on a member of the flock that they want gone, so they’ll peck away at him until he’s dead. That’s why a flock of crows is called a murder of crows. Gruesome!

That’s really interesting! I had no idea. They are beautiful birds though aren’t they.
