Plant a Radish

Plant a radish. Get a radish.
Never any doubt.
That’s why I love vegetables;
You know what you’re about!

Plant a turnip. Get a turnip.
Maybe you’ll get two.
That’s why I love vegetables;
You know that they’ll come through!

They’re dependable!
They’re befriendable!
They’re the best pal a parent’s ever known!
While with children, It’s bewilderin’.
You don’t know until the seed is nearly grown
Just what you’ve sown.

Lyrics by Harvey Schmidt for the musical The Fantasticks

Happy Earth Day

Started on April 22 1970, by Senator Gaylord Nelson as a grass roots demonstration to bring attention to environmental issues,

Earth Day has grown into a world wide phenomenon. The first Earth Day demonstration was celebrated by 20 million people.
What are you doing to celebrate…

We transplanted the herbs from pots to a permanent garden outside my studio. It’s nice to get the old fingernails dirty!

Garden Fairies

And as the seasons come and go, here’s something you might like to know.
There are fairies everywhere: under bushes, in the air,
playing games just like you play, singing through their busy day.
So listen, touch, and look around – in the air and on the ground.
And if you watch all nature’s things, you might just see a fairy’s wing.

Faerie Garden Terrarium

Ingredients:
1 large jar
polymer clay for making mushroom houses
soil
sand
small plants
1 giggly little girl

First we found a very large jar. This one originally held birdseed so I didn’t have to go buy it.

Then we made the houses and Liv’s orange rock out of polymer clay.

Fill the bottom of the jar with sand or gravel for drainage, followed by a layer of soil.

Arrange your houses and then put in the plants. Add any baubles or decor that a faerie might gather.

The result…. one satisfied munchkin and one faerie garden!
