Aubrey has a Mural

So for the last four days I’ve been painting non stop on this under the sea mural for Aubrey.

Some of the pieces were cut out of plywood, painted and attached later for added dimension.

The fish are glittered to catch the light and the bubbles have an iridescent undercoat.

Four days of working until 1:30 AM… and Liv asleep in her jammies on the floor in a sleeping bag.

Surprise with a big pink bow!

This is my gift to you Aubrey!

Adventure Land Mural

This is a set and mural I did for a local church. It was a feature in their grand opening of their Adventureland children’s building.
It consists of a very long landscape mural on the back wall and the set pieces you see here. Then quarterly they would change the theme and new set pieces were made. What is not pictured here, is a puppet stage that I designed with a removable frontal piece that changed along with the theme.
It was fun and kept me busy for awhile. I don’t find it as easy to do sets anymore with an Olivia in tow, but that’s OK because children’s illustration has always been my passion.
Murals paid the bills.

Animal Train Mural

Mural #2 of four. I painted this one in the pre-school room, using familiar shapes and bright colors. This was much harder than I thought it was going to be, as everything needed to be taped off to get good crisp edges. If the backgound paint isn’t dry enough, you risk peeling it off with the removal of the tape!
It extends around both walls at the ends, but this is the major portion of the mural.

Kids Bedroom Mural

This is the mural in Liv’s room, a work in progress to be sure.
It covers all four walls and an alcove. The idea is that she, (my little nature fairy) walks into a fairyland to visit the frog price and all of her nature friends.
The room had a strange alcove, with hanging ball and chain globe lights. I think in 1971 it was meant to house a dresser. Instead, it’s a fairy tree house with a dimensional tree top overhang.
The clouded ceiling was a killer on the neck!
This works for now.
I love going in this room!
I wonder what it will become as she grows up!
