Doesn’t everyone have an Auntie Gretchen? Do you sometimes wish you did?
The Sketchbook Project 2011
Nighttime Stories

So you thought that all the Halloween candy and those plastic goblins that scream just as your three year shouts “trick or treat” came from the store? Oh no my friends, these fine ladies are in the business of conjuring up a darn spooky atmosphere!
“Fillet of a marsh snake, In the cauldron boil and bake:
Eye of newt and toes of frog, Wool of bat and tongue of dog,
Adder’s fork and blind worm’s sting, Lizard’s leg and owlet’s wing,
For a charm of powerful trouble, Like a hell-broth boil and bubble.”
“Double, double, toil and trouble, fire burn and cauldron bubble!”
So this is my cover and end papers for my sketchbook. I glued the front in but not the back, as I’m not sure how thick this sketchbook is going to end up. I’m really having fun with this project!

This is actually a piece taken from a dummy book that I’ve been working on for ages. I thought it might make a great promotional piece. I’m pretty pleased with the outcome!
Aaaarrgh! Well me hearties, it’s time for me to weigh anchor and go swab the poop deck!
Fair winds to ye!

Plant a radish. Get a radish.
Never any doubt.
That’s why I love vegetables;
You know what you’re about!
Plant a turnip. Get a turnip.
Maybe you’ll get two.
That’s why I love vegetables;
You know that they’ll come through!
They’re dependable!
They’re befriendable!
They’re the best pal a parent’s ever known!
While with children, It’s bewilderin’.
You don’t know until the seed is nearly grown
Just what you’ve sown.
Lyrics by Harvey Schmidt for the musical The Fantasticks
