Writing and Illustrating

Click on the picture above to see the next page.

Here’s a new character for a story  that I wrote last month while participating in the 12 x 12 writing challenge.  It’s been interesting to  do a book design and character that was funny, but still sweet like the story. After wrestling with him for about a week, I think I’ve found him.   Now you don’t have to illustrate anything to participate in the 12 x12 challenge.

That’s just what I did with this one, but I am learning a lot about myself as both a writer and an illustrator.

There are eleven more to be written, and I doubt there will be eleven dummy books to go with them…. for now !      :)

Magnificent Max

What’s in a name sighed Magnificent Max…

As he gathered his props and started to pack.

The bunnies revolted, the birds flew away.

Not a whole lot of magic had happened that day.

But descending the ladder as he caught the last bird

“He must be a wizard!…” magic Max overheard.

His dreams of illusion had not slipped away,

To the kids he was magic, that magnificent day!

Lady Griselda

Lady Griselda looked at the date
“Good heavens!” she said
“I’m running quite late!”

“The Coveny Sisters have already started!”
So she packed up her tools
and quickly departed.

And just for good measure she mixed up some dust
Then she sprinkled her broom
Chanting “Salem or bust!”

Swell

or the day the snake started wearing glasses….

Edwin banged on the glass and threw rocks at the birds.

He pushed through the crowds to make sure he was first!

“Where does this door go to?” Edwin asked of his Mum.

“You get back here this instant!  Leave that door knob alone!”

And then he was gone…    As for clues, there weren’t any.

Seems that Edwin that day, banged on one glass too many!

And of Course… Eye of Newt

A light bulb moment at 5:00 in the morning… do I get up and draw it right now, or go back to sleep.Well… I didn’t get up, and I didn’t go back to sleep either!
There was no sleeping until Ruby got the new direction she was asking for.
Don’t you hate it… and love it when this happens!!!!
